[March 26, 2013 – Park City, UT] Today, founder and president Tim Douglas announced the opening of Wasatch Composite Analysis LLC’s offices in the Park City, Utah area.
Wasatch Composite Analysis (WCA), an engineering services firm, offers structural and dynamic analysis of composite and metallic structures for commercial and military manufacturing. The firm’s extensive capabilities include Structural Analysis; Loads & Dynamic Analysis; Thermal/Structural Analysis at Cryogenic Temperatures; Computational Fluid Dynamics; and FEA Tools, Scripting and Software Development.
Fiber-reinforced carbon composite materials are used in the manufacturing of high-performance products that need to be lightweight, yet strong enough to take harsh loading conditions. Applications include: Spacecraft (composite/metallic structures); Launch vehicles (pressure vessels, nozzles, grains); Aircraft (winglets, radomes, ducting, landing gear); Watercraft (nacelles, platforms); Optical Systems (optic benches, telescopes); Deployment Systems (nested telescoping masts) and much more. Once almost entirely used in the world of aerospace and military applications, currently more and more things are made from composites because of its light weight and strength, including consumer products like bicycle frames, fishing rods, baseball bats and more.
The team at Wasatch Composite Analysis offers more than 40 years of composite structures design/analysis/management and cryogenic testing at leading manufacturing and defense contractors such as Hercules, ITT and ATK, working on some of the most high-profile and technically-challenging composite design and analysis projects ever executed. Says WCA president Tim Douglas, “We are excited to offer our expertise to Utah’s growing manufacturing base to allow companies the opportunity to augment their in-house engineering capability with seasoned, knowledgeable composite experts, either to respond quickly to new projects or changing program requirements, or to explore how to enhance existing projects by taking advantage of composite technologies.”
WCA President Tim Douglas brings 29 years in Design/Analysis/Management of composite structures. Past employment includes Hercules, ITT and ATK. Tim has a BS in Mechanical Engineering, University of Colorado, 1983; and MS in Computational Engineering Science, University of Utah, Fall 2013. Software expertise includes MSC/NX NASTRAN, FEMAP, HyperMesh, Catia, SolidWorks, CompositePro, MATLAB, C++,VB. Tim was a Nominee for Utah Engineer of the Year 2012, by Utah Engineering Council.
WCA Senior Analysis Manager Dave Moon has 15 years experience in Design/Analysis/Cryogenic Testing of composite structures. Past employment includes ATK. Dave has a BS in Mechanical Engineering, University of Wyoming, 1995; and an MS in Mechanical Engineering, University of Wyoming, 1999. Software expertise includes MSC/NX NASTRAN, PATRAN, FEMAP, CompositePro. Dave was the recipient of a NASA Group Achievement Award, signed by C. J. Scott (Acting Administrator, NASA) in 2009.
